As a performer
My musicianship is influenced by my curiosity and respect for what others do. Becoming a musician requires courage, and my musicianship has helped me overcome the challenges essential to becoming an excellent music teacher and piano performer. It allows me to recognize that every student has their own voice. My musicianship is rooted in my determination to learn, my confidence to play, my ability to self-critique my sound, and my capacity to connect with others. It enables me to be open-minded, welcoming challenges and participating in both formal settings (conferences, recitals, symposiums) and informal settings (church, parties). It grants me versatility and the ability to recognize music reading, arrange, craft tone quality, express my emotions, and perform solo recitals and chamber music. The core of my musicianship lies in finding my voice in every context, with a creative impulse and social engagement. There is no limit to what you can accomplish when you make the effort to develop and participate in lifelong learning.
As an educator
As an educator, I strive to be comfortable recognizing my privileges, strengths, and weaknesses, with the intention that this self-awareness will foster similar abilities in my students and enable them to engage with their learning processes. Since students' learning processes are always at different stages, I aim to identify where each individual is in their journey to build a learning path from that point. Creating an atmosphere of creativity, mutual support, and spontaneity during class, I believe, prepares the students for effective learning. My goal is to evoke, stimulate, and develop my students' skills in a way that positively impacts their overall well-being.
As a music educator
As a music education and piano teacher, I aim to attain a profound understanding and high level of reflection in both music education and piano pedagogy. Whether in private or group lessons, I assess each student’s needs and then assign the most suitable repertoire or strategy to address those needs, ensuring their growth in technique, artistry, and musicianship. Throughout classes, I prioritize professionalism, accessibility, kindness, and empathy. While encouraging my students to work hard and diligently, I also provide them with ample time and resources to succeed. My overarching goal as a teacher is to instill a love for music and equip students with a variety of strategies that lead to effective practice sessions.
As a researcher
As a researcher, I acknowledge that the generation of knowledge does not occur by keeping it to ourselves but rather by sharing and disseminating it without reservation. I aim to teach my regular classes while also maintaining the momentum of research projects, producing work for journal submissions, and participating in conferences or recitals. Networking with colleagues worldwide is an integral aspect of what I believe defines a true music educator
